Vintage-Inspired Master Bedroom Digital Makeover

When I told you about my thrifted mantel clock makeover, I mentioned that I had found several things while thrifting all summer, and this is one of them. I went to Goodwill a few weeks ago because I was looking for vintage sheets, and while I was there I got sucked into the entire bedding section!

I found a green throw for Rocket Boy (his favorite color) and a purple throw for Baby Girl (her favorite color), and I found this beautiful, soft, cozy, vintage plaid blanket for Mr. Magpie. I absolutely love the colors, and I love that it's a little more masculine for him, instead of the florals upon florals that I prefer.

I have to admit, I had an ulterior motive. Mr. Magpie has an afghan that a relative made for him, and... I'm sorry, but it's awful! It's acrylic yarn, asymmetrical, black, red and a blueish gray and it's... well. I won't say anything more about it. It's special to him and I wouldn't ask him to give it up. But I don't necessarily want to live with it in my bedroom either, YKWIM? So his blanket will go in his study, and this one can live here.

The best part is that he actually really loves it. He says it's better than his old blanket -- it's a full-size blanket, has some weight to it, and is suuuuper soft. When he's not using it, I fold it up and put it on the wing-back chair so it's always available.

Of course, we're not really working on this room right now, and so there's still a ton to do. Slipcover the chair, paint the nightstands, paint the walls.... add lamps for goodness sake.

I'd also love a vintage-look quilt on the bed, and some great vintage quilt pillows. Maybe the lampshade could be bright pink to freshen things up?

And you know, at some point Mr. Magpie and I would like to add two new windows, one on either side of the bed. It's sooo dark in the bedroom, and I think it would be pretty and also let in a ton of light.

Oooh, pretty!

Okay, maybe a bit too girly for Mr. Magpie. But we can adjust as we go in real life and make sure it's a room that he's comfortable in, too. Fortunately he's not too concerned with the bedroom being a wee bit on the feminine side. His attitude is that if it makes me feel romantic and sweet, that's good for him, so he's okay with it.

But for now it's nice just having a few things in here that are starting to speak to that color palette that makes me so happy. You may remember that I brought a bouquet of cabbage roses home from a friend last year, and I realized that these colors are my most favorite of all. So I've been trying to follow that lead when I do find things for my bedroom from time to time. Since we're not really working on it, exactly.

For now, I'm just happy to find something that makes us both happy AND is so functional. Win!

How about you? Have you found anything good lately?

Love, Angela
